I loved this: We simply cannot out-supplement a nervous system that doesn’t feel safe. We cannot green-juice our way out of a body that thinks it’s still in the middle of an emotional war zone.
You are right it’s so important to understand your nervous system first.
Thank you!! Yes! Learning to actually wade through the noise in my head to actually hear what my body is telling me and pleading with me for…attention 🙏
This is fantastic! I can't wait to read more of what you write... I can relate to so much of it, although I'm not a chef, I'm a professor (and a counselor) who's going through my own transitions with two young teenagers. So, solidarity, mama. I can't wait to learn from (and with?) you!
The fridge full of expired good intentions made me laugh out loud because I’ve lived that. But what really stayed with me was the connection between nervous system safety and actually being able to nourish yourself. I spent weeks unable to eat because my body was constantly on high alert, and no amount of “healthy choices” was going to fix that. What I needed was safety, not supplements. Also the part about grandmothers’ cooking being the original nervous system medicine resonated with me so much. My grandma regulated me through food before either of us had language for what that meant.
“We simply cannot out-supplement a nervous system that doesn’t feel safe. “ I’ve been exploring this a LOT lately as it seems to be the common factor amongst all that I meet (and myself). I am NOT a chef, can’t cook to save my life but thankfully have a husband who loves all things food. Following along here in case you manage to inspire me to get creative in the kitchen!

Exactly!! It’s something I have to constantly remind myself of and reset when I notice it 💕
