What a powerful and beautiful piece Jess! It’s never too late to forgive ourselves! And this is the exact moment for you to forgive yourself bc you are ready🤍 x
What strikes me reading this is the common denominator running through every stage: the playground, the church, the marriage, the infertility. Your body has spent 42 years being measured, policed and reduced by forces largely outside of you. Fertility. Purity. Desirability. The male gaze in all its forms.
You weren't at war with your body. You were navigating a world that was at war with it on your behalf, and you internalised the fight as your own. The fact that you can see that now and write it this SO beautifully, is so precious 🌻x
This is incredible. I resonate with your words deeply. I have yet to write myself a letter but I can see how this would most definitely be a step in the right direction for me.
I appreciate your openness and honesty in this. I see you and I hear you and I’m proud of how far you have come!
My therapist def knew what she was doing when she prescribed this exercise for me…I thought I was pretty content in my body but man did it dig up all this pent up self-blame and honest hatred for the dang thing…and from such an early age too…self-reflection is a wild ride 🤦♀️🥴
Oh, Jess!! I see you, I hear you, I feel you! So much of what you describe I have dealt with my whole life and even now still struggle with!! Working with you, I always thought everything was “fine”! You both seemed so happy, but I know (all too well!) that things aren’t always what they seem! I’ve lived that. I feel I’ve gotten to know you better since you’ve moved and we no longer work together. 🩷 It’s sad, in a way. I wish I’d known you better then!! Now, I really wish we lived closer! Keep up the writing. You are so good at it!! 😍
Thanks Lisa!! I feel the same way, I wish we still worked together/lived closer!! Would be so fun🥰 love you and love to be even more connected now…even from afar💕
